MerMay Character Design Series

This series of illustrations was inspired by the annual MerMay challenge, a month-long art event in May that encourages artists to create mermaid-themed artwork. For this project, I explored character design through different aquatic inspirations: one mermaid based on a jellyfish, another inspired by a traditional mermaid concept, and a third influenced by the unique Mexican axolotl.

The main goal was to experiment with limited color palettes, minimal yet textured aesthetics, and cultural diversity within character design. By incorporating different traits, features, and influences, I aimed to break away from standard representations and create unique, imaginative mermaid characters.
